Bayer Animal Health is pleased to introduce Renalzin®, a new oral paste which binds to dietary phosphate, rendering it indigestible.
Intervention to control phosphate is an essential part of the successful management of chronic renal disease.
Lanthanum carbonate is the newest generation of phosphate binder and is also used in human medicine. Lantharenol, the active ingredient of Renalzin®, is a powerful chelator of phosphorus and works by binding phosphorus ingested in the diet, forming highly insoluble phosphate salt complexes that are unable to pass through the wall of the gastrointestinal tract and are instead eliminated with the faeces. By trapping phosphorus in this way, it reduces absorption into the systemic circulation and reduces the burden of excess phosphorus in the patient
Lanthanum carbonate remains in the gastrointestinal tract and systemic absorption is negligible.
Renalzin also contains the additional supporting ingredients kaolin, a known toxin binder, and the antioxidant vitamin E.
Renalzin can be used alongside other therapies as part of your renal management protocol.
NB: Some oral medications may need to be given at a different time to allow sufficient time for their absorption.
