Performing regular water changes is an important part of aquarium maintenance, and tap water is the best source of new water. However, it contains high levels of toxic chlorine and heavy metals, which damage fish and leave them open to infection. AquaSafe contains ingredients which make tap water safe, rendering these toxic elements harmless to fish. It is essential to treat tap water with AquaSafe, before using it in the aquarium. As well as making tap water safe, AquaSafe also introduces elements to the aquarium which reduce stress, and which coat the fish, protecting them against infection.

How it Works
TetraFin AquaSafe contains advanced ingredients which neutralise chlorine, and bind heavy metals to make them harmless. AquaSafe works instantly to make tap water safe for fish. How to Use

Many tropical fish, such as tetras, barbs , discus and killifish, come from waters that are rich in natural peat and plant extracts. These compounds are important for health, reproduction and condition, and can be added to the aquarium using Blackwater Extract. This product will improve spawning success, health, and colouration in many species of aquarium fish. In addition, it will aid plant growth, limit the growth of bacteria and fungi, and help to control algae problems.

How it Works
Blackwater Extract contains a blend of peat and plant extracts, plant hormones, and naturally occurring vitamins.

How to Use
Add 5ml of Blackwater Extract per 10litres (2 gallons) of aquarium water initially, followed by 2.5ml per 10litres (2 gallons) every 1-2 weeks, as part of your normal maintenance schedule. Blackwater Extract may initially turn the aquarium water a slight brown colour, until the ingredients have fully dissipated. Activated carbon and other chemical filter media may remove Blackwater Extract, and so should be removed during its use.

Bactozym works to accelerate the development, or "maturation", of friendly bacteria within aquarium filters. This helps to prevent New Tank Syndrome, which commonly occurs in aquariums with new filters, or when the filter has been damaged. In new aquariums, the use of Bactozym allows the first fish to be added after 24 hrs.

How it Works
Bactozym has a unique two-way action which removes harmful waste and speeds up filter maturation. It stimulates the decomposition of uneaten fish food using naturally occurring enzymes, and it creates ideal conditions for the rapid development of filter bacteria. This helps to avoid the accumulation of harmful pollutants during the early stages of setting up your aquarium. Bactozym can also be used to reestablish filters that have been damaged.

How to Use
Add Bactozym to all new filters, and after cleaning established filters. For new aquariums, add 2 capsules per 100 litres (22 gallons) of aquarium water, placing the capsules directly into the filter. Repeat every 7 days. Refreshing aquarium water is an essential part of good fishkeeping, and is necessary in order to keep your fish healthy. Traditionally, the only way to do this was through time-consuming regular partial water changes. Now this is no longer necessary, as EasyBalance can replace the refreshing action of a water change. By using EasyBalance, you can reduce the frequency of water changes, to a minimum of once every 6 months. By reducing the number of stressful water changes, and adding essential elements to the aquarium, EasyBalance also helps to maintain improved fish condition. In addition, EasyBalance contains elements for encouraging healthy plant growth, and it actively reduces nitrate and phosphates, thus helping to control algae.

How it Works
EasyBalance works in two ways. Firstly, it replaces the refreshing action of a water change by replacing essential elements and vitamins, reducing and maintaining low levels of nutrients such as phosphate and nitrate, and by adding minerals to stabilise the pH. Secondly, it eliminates the need for stressful water changes, and adds essential elements that may be lacking in tap water, thereby helping to improve fish health and condition.

How to Use
Add EasyBalance to the aquarium at a rate of 2.5ml per 10litres (2 gallons) every week, to replace regular water changes. Perform a proper water change, using tap water conditioned with AquaSafe, at least once every 6 months. When using EasyBalance, ensure that the aquarium is properly aerated. EasyBalance is only suitable for use in mature tanks, with a fully functioning filter. It is still important to keep the gravel clean while using EasyBalance, through occassional siphoning with a TetraTec HydroClean gravel siphon.

High nitrate levels can encourage excessive algal growth, which can make the aquarium look unsightly. Unlike other nitrate reducing products, which need regular recharging and replacing, NitrateMinus is simply added weekly to the aquarium. Also unlike many ordinary nitrate reducing products, NitrateMinus does not need to be added to a filter system to work, but is simply added straight to the water.

How it Works
NitrateMinus utilises a natural biological process called denitrification to remove nitrate. Under conditions of low oxygen, such as are found under the gravel in most aquariums, special bacteria use nitrate instead of oxygen to break down the NitrateMinus granules. By doing so, they steadily reduce existing nitrate levels, and maintain a permanently low level. In addition to removing nitrates, NitrateMinus also releases a low level of carbonates into the water, which helps to stabilise the pH of the water.

How to Use
Simply add the required dose of NitrateMinus to the aquarium once a week to keep nitrate levels low. NitrateMinus must be in an oxygen poor environment to work. The effectiveness of NitrateMinus may therefore be reduced in aquariums with undergravel filters.

At times it is necessary to add tap water to the aquarium, as part of a water change or a top-up. Tap water is designed for human use, and therefore contains high levels of chlorine to kill germs. In addition, it may contain varying levels of toxic heavy metals. Both chlorine and heavy metals are toxic to fish, and will cause them long-term damage and stress. Leaving water to stand will not remove all of these factors, and so is not an alternative to using a water conditioner. AquaSafe works by instantly neutralising these harmful substances, and should be used every time new water is added to the aquarium. In addition, AquaSafe also reduces stress, promotes wound healing and protects against infection, and adds a protective coating to the fish.

How it Works
AquaSafe contains special compounds that eliminate chlorine and bind up heavy metals. In addition, it contains colloids that coat the fish, protecting them against infection. AquaSafe also contains stress-reducing vitamins, and compounds that inhibit bacteria and fungi. All this means that your fish are well protected against the harmful effects of tap water, and the stress of water changes.

How to Use
Add AquaSafe to new tap water at a rate of 5ml per 10litres (2gallons), to make it safe prior to doing a water change. AquaSafe can also be added directly to the aquarium at the same dosage, to act as a general stress-reliever. When preparing water for water changes, it is best to treat it with AquaSafe in a bucket beforehand, and use boiled tap water to warm it to the same temperature as the aquarium.

How it Works

By identifying and then culturing those bacteria which truly are involved in ammonia and nitrite removal, SafeStart is able to offer a relaible means of quickly activating new filters. This in turn allows the instant introduction of new fish, and ensures a better environment for them.

How to Use
When setting up a new aquarium: Set the aquarium up and turn on all equipment. Wait at least 24hrs to ensure that the equipment is working correctly, and to allow the aquarium to reach the correct temperature. Then add 5ml of SafeStart per 6 litres of water, at the same time as adding the fish. We recommend a stocking level of adult fish equivalent to 1cm per litre. This refers to the eventual size of the fish, not the size when they are added (e.g. 10 Neon Tetras at 1.5cm each are equivalent to approximately 25cm when adult).

Plants require carbon dioxide (CO2) for photosynthesis, the process by which they make simple sugars. Photosynthesis is essential for healthy growth. Most aquariums contain small amounts of carbon dioxide; less than the 5-15mg/l recommended for optimum plant performance. The CO2 Optimat is a simple way to add additional carbon dioxide to the aquarium, and thereby supporting healthy, lush plant growth.

How it Works
The CO2 Optimat delivers concentrated carbon dioxide to a diffuser in the aquarium. Here it slowly diffuses into the aquarium during the course of the day, increasing the carbon dioxide level and promoting good plant growth.

How to Use
Simply press the top of the CO2 Optimat to squirt carbon dioxide into the diffuser. These needs to be done once or twice a day, depending on aquarium conditions. Regular checking of the carbon dioxide level with a TetraTest Laborett kit is recommended, to ensure that the correct concentrations are being achieved.
