A puppy, just like humans, they need to keep fit and ensure they do not put on too much weight. While your puppy is growing it is important you do not over exercise them and put their joints under too much strain. However, as your puppy gets older you will need to keep an eye on its weight, as he is likely to become less active. For the average older dog three walks a day for 20-30 mins at a time are usually enough. While your puppy is young, shorter walks will be necessary. Playing with your puppy regularly at home will help keep them active and also help build your bond together.
As well as exercise, while your puppy is young, it is important to get into the habit of healthy feeding. Dogs, like humans, are getting fatter. If your dog becomes overweight, they are at greater risk of illnesses such as diabetes, heart disease and arthritis. To stop your puppy becoming overweight, follow some simple guidelines:
